On May 29th the City Council’s order approving Union Gospel Mission’s request for a conditional use permit to relocate its men’s shelter to property in the 700 and 800 blocks of North Commercial became final. A 21 day appeal period followed. Neither Dave Glennie, a local property owner who had objected to an earlier Hearing Officer’s decision, nor any other qualified person filed an appeal to the Land Use Board of Appeals. Accordingly, the conditional use permit is established.
Based on prior public statements UGM will now turn to fundraising for its new 54,000 sq ft building which has an estimated cost of $15 million. UGM hopes to begin construction in the fall of 2019.
