Middle School Creative Writing Workshop

Jim Merrill has taught high school in California, Colorado and Oregon. For a year he lived at the Zen Center of LA where he received meditation training from its founder, Maezumi Roshi. He received an MFA in writing at the Naropa Institute (The Jack Kerouac School). In 1998 Jim taught writing at Beijing Agricultural University. In 1999, he moved his family to Salem and taught at Chemawa Indian School, where he retired in 2014. Please bring your poetry to read.
