On Tuesday, February 7, local writer and poet, Eleanor Berry, will be giving a reading and conducting a workshop as Chemeketa’s “Winter Writer.” The theme “Cycles of Life” is what the poster designers drew from their study of her poetry, but don’t think that the reading and workshop will be limited to plant poems, but will range much more broadly. The reading will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Chemeketa art gallery. It’s free and open to the public. The workshop will focus on what Berry is calling “Poetry as Deep Conversation”–conversation with fellow poets: our contemporaries, our elders, and our (chosen) ancestors. There will be an opportunity for drafting one or two poems and for sharing drafts with the group. The workshop is open to the public and will run from 5:00 p.m. to around 8:50 p.m. in Building 3 Room 118, with pizza (including vegetarian and gluten-free) supplied for supper. The fee is $25. Eleanor Berry is an accomplished poet, teacher, and current and past president of several poetry associations. Two books of her poetry have been published: “Green November” and “No Constant Hues.” • Poetry Reading in the Chemeketa Art Gallery | Workshop in Chemeketa Building 3, Rm 118 • Salem
