The day after Thanksgiving, when you’ve eaten the last of the pumpkin pie for breakfast and are making soup out of the turkey carcass, you might consider skipping the national greed fest we call Black Friday, and, instead, heading out to visit a few of the wineries nestled in the hills around Salem.  Each year, Willamette Valley wineries throw open their doors for special events during Thanksgiving weekend, and celebrate the harvest with special tastings, food pairings, and live music. The wineries listed here are all close to home, so you can turn down the stock pot to a low simmer and spend the day exploring the countryside and tasting our local vintages.  When you get home, you will be filled with the pleasant glow that an afternoon spent sipping wine in the fresh air gives you, and the soup will be done.   If you want to range farther afield, go to http://willamettewines.com/brochure for suggestions, and download a brochure with a map.
