The ninth annual “Chefs for Liberty House” will feature five local award-winning chefs, a silent auction and live music by the Bill Hughes Jazz Trio.
The event will take place Sunday, April 10th at Willamette Valley Vineyards. Tickets are $90 per person or $750 per table and the money raised goes to fund child abuse assessment services by Liberty House, a non-profit providing resources to hundreds of children up to 18.
In a clinical setup, not a home where they stay overnight, “Children can come and feel free to talk, we do a medical evaluation and offer family support and community education,” says Louise Maras, administrative assistant.
Last year’s event sold out, with 224 people attending, and raised $56,000.
The four-course meal will be prepared by chefs Diana Ramallo of Amadeus Café, Jeff Nizlek of Silver Grille Café and Wines, Steve Morton of Morton’s Bistro, Jamie Schulte of Queen of Tarts Baking Company and Daryl Gossack of Loustic Catering. They are all donating their time and skills.
Chef Jamie Schulte will be in charge of dessert this year and she will be preparing panna cotta with roasted blueberry Riesling sauce (Willamette Valley Vineyards).
“I’m participating because the people at Liberty House provide an invaluable service to the most vulnerable among us: children. Child abuse and neglect are all too common and tend to increase in times of economic strife,” says Schulte. “A correct assessment is the crucial first step to begin healing and understanding what happened to these kids before they reach adulthood, carrying a secret that unconsciously affects so many important decisions they will make in their lives. I’m honored to be asked and am looking forward to working with my fellow friends and colleagues who are too busy working all the time to hang out together!”
Forty other volunteers from the community will be helping at the event, and Willamette Valley Vineyards donated the space. They will also be serving wine from six other wineries.
The silent auction includes about 30 different items, such as stays at hotels in Portland, meals included; a three-night golf package at the beach, a wine tour, a round-trip airplane ride to a location of the recipient’s choice (within a 150-mile radius), lunch included, and a lady’s spa package.
